Dr Erica Ballantyne is a Senior Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management at the University of Sheffield Management School, where she co-leads the Climate-Health-Resilience Research Network. Erica is an applied, interdisciplinary researcher whose work sits at the intersection of logistics, sustainable transport, and supply chain operations. Her current research focuses on retail returns, reverse supply chains, and transport logistics applications for energy storage and electrification. She brings a wealth of practical experience to her academic work, having previously held various operational and management roles within the logistics and transport industry, including positions with a major European 3PL and other leading supply chain contractors, primarily in the FMCG and grocery sector. Her research has appeared in leading international journals, and is characterised by strong industry collaboration and real-world impact, for which she has won several awards, including the prestigious 2025 Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) Award for Excellence. Erica holds a PhD from the Institute for Transport Studies at the University of Leeds and is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, where she contributes to the Logistics Research Network and served as Chairperson of the LRN 2025 conference held in Sheffield.
